WNBA's NY Liberty Reportedly Valued at Record $450M After Raising New Capital
The New York Liberty reportedly are now the highest-valued women's sports franchise in history.
According to Ben Pickman of The Athletic, the Liberty are valued at $450 million after raising capital from a group of investors, which "is believed to be a record across professional women’s sports and is more than double that of the last publicly known capital raise made by a WNBA franchise."
Pickman noted that the deal is still subject to league approval, and it is not yet clear how many investors were involved in raising the capital. Sources told Pickman that the total size of the shares sold is believed to be a percentage in the "mid-teens." The money reportedly "is believed to be part of a capital raise to help build a new practice facility."
