Omega, Strickland's Team Beat Death Riders & Young Bucks in Anarchy in the Arena

Mike ChiariMay 25, 2025

Kenny Omega, Swerve Strickland, Willow Nightingale and The Opps defeated The Death Riders and The Young Bucks in an Anarchy in the Arena match at AEW Double or Nothing on Sunday.

The match was so wild it needed four screens just to capture the madness.

As all teams zeroed in on their targets, the brawls spilled into the merch stands, the crowd and even outside the arena in a full-blown free-for-all.

Chaos hit new heights with the introduction of staple guns, thumbtacks and superkicks flying in every direction—including one that dropped the referee. A surprise appearance by Hook, armed with a golf iron and a bloodied Mark Briscoe, put the exclamation point on an all-out war.

The Death Riders were locked inside the ambulance, eliminating them from the match and leaving just two teams standing.

Swerve sealed the chaos with a brutal stomp off the top rope—his shoes lined with thumbtacks—before securing the final pinfall for the win.

The groundwork for Anarchy in the Arena was laid for weeks leading up to Double or Nothing, and it essentially all started with the main event of Dynasty last month.

Just when it looked like Swerve Strickland was about to beat Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship, the lights went out and The Young Bucks emerged after being off AEW programming for months.

Matt and Nick Jackson hit Strickland with the EVP Trigger, allowing Mox to pin him and retain his title.

Given that The Young Bucks turned on Omega, attacked him and put him on the shelf last year, he was a natural fit to join Swerve in his battle against The Death Riders and The Bucks.

Just over a week after Dynasty, The Opps challenged The Death Riders for the AEW World Trios Championships. Samoa Joe, Powerhouse Hobbs and Katsuyori Shibata beat Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta for the titles, putting them directly in The Death Riders' crosshairs.

Nightingale has had issues with The Death Riders dating back to last year when she tried to help Orange Cassidy in his AEW world title match against Moxley at Full Gear by neutralizing Marina Shafir.

She continued to be a thorn in The Death Riders' side in recent weeks, even teaming with Swerve in a tag match against Moxley and Shafir. After Strickland and Willow won that match, Moxley shockingly hit Nightingale with the Paradigm Shift DDT.

On the go-home episode of Dynamite before Double or Nothing, the team of Swerve, Joe and Hobbs beat Moxley and The Young Bucks in a six-man tag team match. A massive brawl broke out during the aftermath, leading to the announcement of Anarchy in the Arena.

Motivated to get revenge against their tormentors, the team of Swerve, Omega, Joe, Hobbs, Shibata and Willow banded together and got the better of The Death Riders and The Young Bucks at Double or Nothing.
