Stars Amaze NHL Fans with 3rd-Period Takeover to Beat Connor McDavid, Oilers in Game 1

Now that's how you finish a game.

The Dallas Stars reeled off a whopping five unanswered goals in the third period of Wednesday's Western Conference Finals matchup against the Edmonton Oilers, erasing a 3-1 deficit to pull off a wild 6-3 victory.

Tyler Seguin led the way with two goals and an assist, while Matt Duchene (one goal), Mikael Granlund (one goal, one assist), Miro Heiskane (one goal, one assist) and Esa Lindell (one goal) joined the fun.

It wasn't a banner night for Jake Oettinger, who made 24 saves on 27 attempts, but it was certainly better than the evening his counterpart in goal had, Stuart Skinner (22 saves on 27 attempts).

That frustrations boiled over the moment the final whistle blew wasn't a huge surprise, as several scuffles broke out at center ice—it was a disappointing final period for the Oilers.

For Dallas fans and neutral observers, however, it was one hell of a ride:

It appeared the Oilers were going to steal home-ice advantage with a Game 1 win after they pushed a pair of goals across in the second period, taking a 3-1 lead. Connor McDavid looked unstoppable, registering a pair of assists, while Leon Draisaitl had a goal and two assists.

But the Stars showed immense resilience, peppering Edmonton's defensive zone in the third period and overwhelming Skinner, namely on the power play. When the dust settled, the Stars protected home ice and had a dramatic Game 1 win.

Friday's Game 2 should be a fun one.
