Purdy has been a tremendous success story after being selected as the final pick in the 2022 NFL draft. He took over as the team's starting quarterback in Dec. 2022 and then led the 49ers to the NFC Championship Game before piloting the team to the NFC title in the 2023 campaign.

For his career, Purdy has completed 67.5 percent of his passes for 9,518 yards, 64 touchdowns and 27 interceptions. His best year was 2023, when Purdy led the league in quarterback rating, QBR and yards per attempt. Purdy finished the season fourth in the NFL MVP race.

Purdy entered this season on the final year of his rookie deal, but the 49ers obviously wanted to handle a contract extension this offseason and avoid any potential distractions of him being a potential free agent as the spring and summer months advanced.

And now Purdy is signed long-term as the 49ers look toward rebounding from a 6-11 campaign and last-place finish in the NFC West.

On Wednesday, Purdy spoke with reporters post-contract. It was clear from his comments that he wanted to get a deal done with this team, move forward with the offseason and focus on 2025.

He also spoke about setting everyone up for success moving forward.

The 49ers haven't been immune to contract drama in the past, but that hasn't happened this year with Purdy, tight end George Kittle and linebacker Fred Warner all signing deals. Now the 49ers move ahead in hopes of capturing past success, when the team notably made two Super Bowls and four conference championship games from 2019-2023.
