Oilers vs. Stars Betting Odds, Player Props and Picks for May 21

Joe TanseyMay 21, 2025

There are all sorts of benefits to playing alongside the NHL’s top players.

The linemates of Mikko Rantanen and Connor McDavid have had successful postseasons through two rounds. They are poised to play big roles yet again in the Western Conference Final.

The presence of those stars, though, does not guarantee that the Dallas Stars and Edmonton Oilers will post a ton of goals. Both defenses are coming off strong second-round series performances.

Mikael Grandlund Over 1.5 Shots on Goal (-115)

Mikael Granlund recorded two or more shots on goal in six of his last eight games.

Granlund is on Dallas’ all-Finnish top line with Rantanen and Roope Hintz.

A good amount of Edmonton’s defensive focus should be on Rantanen because of his nine goals and 10 assists this postseason.

Granlund and Hintz need to pressure the Edmonton net for there to be offensive balance on the top line and to free up a bit more space for Rantanen.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins Over 0.5 Points (-115)

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had a seven-game point streak end in Game 4 against the Vegas Golden Knights.

Nugent-Hopkins is up on the Oilers’ top line with Connor McDavid, who has displayed more willingness to shoot throughout the postseason.

McDavid had 20 shots on goal in the second round, and although he only scored once, his linemates did have plenty of chances to record points on his attempts.

Instead of betting directly on McDavid to score or his shots on goal at a higher price, it’s worth looking at Nugent-Hopkins because of his -115, his postseason numbers and his role alongside McDavid on both the top line and power play.

Under 6.5 (-125)

Three of Edmonton’s five second-round games went under 6.5.

Five of Dallas’ six matchups with Winnipeg also went under 6.5.

Additionally, four of the six Western Conference Final games last season between the two teams had fewer than six goals.

The stars can still get on the scoresheet, but scoring an abundance of goals on either defense has been tough lately.
