Eagles' A.J. Brown Says He Won't Play Olympics Flag Football to Keep Focus on NFL

Andrew PetersMay 20, 2025

The NFL approved players' participation in flag football at the Olympics on Tuesday to much excitement of stars ready to go for gold.

But other players have already ruled out the idea of representing the United States in 2028. Philadelphia Eagles star A.J. Brown said the timeline would interfere too much with his NFL schedule.

"I heard the Olympics is during camp. So, yeah, that would be tough," Brown said, per PHLY's Zach Berman. "...That would be fun just to compete. Me personally, no, because of camp. (The media) would be complaining, 'A.J. Brown is not in camp.' So would the fans. So I'm going to keep the main thing the main thing."

The Los Angeles Olympics will take place throughout July and will likely force players to miss a handful of team activities. That certainly won't stop some players from participating, but Brown will have to sit this one out. Plenty of players will probably follow his lead.

While Brown was quick to turn down the idea of playing in the Olympics, other players are already teasing their Olympic debuts. Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill, who has long expressed interest in the Olympics, seemed excited about the news on Tuesday.

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson couldn't believe the news.

"To be honest, I'm at a loss for words," Jefferson said, per ESPN's Brooke Pryor.

The Olympic rosters are a ways away from being decided, but plenty of stars will likely be lining up for a spot on the United States' team. Unfortunately for Eagles' fans, Brown won't be one of those stars.
