"I was actually away from my phone for a couple hours and go back to like six missed calls from Jerry's assistant. Had no idea, literally no idea what it could have been about.
"And actually a voicemail from Jerry: 'Hey, I got some good news I wanna share with you!'
"So I called him back and he was excited, and he was just telling me that it happened, that it'd be released either later that night or in the next morning. And yeah, just a lot of excitement from both of us."
Pickens, a fourth-year pro, spent his first three seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was traded to Dallas along with a 2027 sixth-round pick for a 2026 third-rounder and a 2027 fifth-rounder on May 7.
The ex-Georgia star, who figures to be the No. 2 wideout behind superstar CeeDee Lamb, caught 59 passes for 900 yards and three touchdowns last year. That followed his first-ever 1,000-yard campaign in 2023, when he snagged 63 passes for 1,140 yards and five scores.
Now he's Prescott's new weapon, and that undoubtedly has made him happy. Dallas needed a WR2 to line up alongside Lamb, and now the team has one as the Cowboys look to bounce back from a 7-10 season.
