Did a glimpse of the old Cena shine through?

As he stood poised to strike Truth with his championship belt, Cena paused—hesitating just long enough to raise eyebrows. In a surprising move, he handed the belt over to the referee to a wave of cheers from the crowd, sparking hope that the Cena of old had returned.

But the moment was fleeting. Just as quickly, Cena turned back, delivered a brutal low blow, and nailed the pin to steal the victory—proving once again that this version of Cena plays by his own rules.

Cena and Truth had long been on-screen allies to the point that Truth even adopted the usage of some of Cena's signature moves in his matches, including the Five Knuckle Shuffle and the Attitude Adjustment.

Truth also referred to Cena as his "childhood hero" despite the fact that he is five years older than Cena. That became a running gag Truth kept up for years on WWE programming.

At Elimination Chamber back in March, Cena shocked wrestling fans across the globe by attacking Cody Rhodes and turning heel for the first time since early in his career over 20 years ago.

While the decision to brutalize Cody alienated Cena from almost every wrestler and wrestling fan, Truth was one of the few who decided to stand by him.

After Cena cheated to beat Rhodes for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 41, the WWE Universe booed him and multiple WWE Superstars spoke ill of him and his actions.

Despite that, Truth continued to show belief in Cena, as he brushed off Jimmy Uso's assertion that Cena had changed.

At Backlash, Cena put the WWE Championship on the line against Randy Orton in Orton's hometown of St. Louis. During the latter stages of the match while the referee was incapacitated Orton, was preparing to punt Cena in the head.

However, Truth surprisingly slid into the ring and stopped Orton before he could execute the kick. Cena took advantage of the distraction, hitting Orton with a low blow and then taking him out with a title belt shot to the face to retain.

Following the event, Cena took part in a press conference, which Truth interrupted. Truth told Cena he believed in him and was proud of him "even if people say you suck and can't wrestle."

A furious Cena told Truth he crossed the line, which led to him hitting Truth with an Attitude Adjustment through a table.

After seeing the light and understanding what Cena had become, Truth was prepared to go to battle against a person who he once emulated.

While the WWE Universe was behind Truth in his bid to make Cena pay, the WWE champ was victorious and continued his recent winning ways.
