PGA Championship Leaderboard 2025 Review of Top Scorecards and Player Stats on Day 3

Joe TanseyMay 17, 2025

Scottie Scheffler is 18 holes away from winning his third major title.

The two-time Masters winner took control of the 2025 PGA Championship with a dominant run of birdies on the back nine at Quail Hollow Club.

Scheffler shot five-under with one eagle and three birdies on the 14th through 18th holes to break away from a crowded back below him.

Eleven players sit between five-and-eight-under. Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau and Matt Fitzpatrick are the headliners of the group behind Scheffler.

Thirty-six hole leader Jhonattan Vegas is also part of the chasing pack. He battled through a tough day in windy conditions to remain in the top five.

Scottie Scheffler Gains Control With Surge On Back Nine

2025 PGA Championship - Round Three

Scottie Scheffler put on a masterclass on the back nine at Quail Hollow Club.

The top-ranked men's golfer conquered the par-four 14th hole with an eagle after an incredible tee shot.

Scheffler then kept the momentum rolling with a birdie on the 15th hole.

After a par on the 16th, Scheffler rolled in birdies on the 17th and 18th holes, two of the most difficult holes on the course.

The incredible finish allowed Scheffler to open a three-stroke lead on Noren going into Sunday. Scheffler finished with a six-under 65, the best round of the day, to get him to 11-under for the tournament.

If he plays like he did on Saturday, it's hard to imagine anyone catching Scheffler.

Jon Rahm's Low Round Moves Him Into Top Five

2025 PGA Championship - Round Three

Before Scheffler conquered the back nine, Jon Rahm was the story of the day at Quail Hollow.

The two-time major winner emerged from the middle of the leaderboard to post a four-under 67.

Rahm produced seven birdies, four of which came on the back nine.

The Spaniard's round would have been even better had he not bogeyed the 17th hole.

The 67 placed Rahm in a tie for fifth at six-under. If he finishes in the top three, he'll have his best-ever placing at the PGA Championship.

Rahm is considered a long-shot to win with a five-stroke deficit to Scheffler, but if the leader struggles, he could be one of the golfers to benefit the most on Sunday.

Jhonattan Vegas Hangs Around In Top Ten

4 of 4
2025 PGA Championship - Round Three

Many thought Jhonattan Vegas would fade away on Saturday due to his lack of top-20 finishes at major tournaments.

However, the 36-hole leader battled throughout the day to finish with a two-over round that kept him five strokes adrift of Scheffler.

Vegas' round started in the worst possible way with bogeys on the first two holes.

After that, he rolled in two birdies and recorded 10 pars to level out his round.

Vegas dropped shots on the 15th and 18th holes, but to only drop two shots is a major achievement given the fact that his highest-ever major finish is a tie for 22nd.
