Kevin Durant was also thrilled about the start of the WNBA regular season in a post on X.
James has been a vocal supporter of Clark dating back to her stellar college career at Iowa.
He previously explained that his admiration for Clark comes from her talent on the floor as well as their shared experience of being the No. 1 overall draft pick in their respective leagues.
"I have a great deal of respect for Caitlin Clark, because I know exactly what it means to be drafted, be the face of a franchise, and also get the scrutiny from a lot of people that don’t believe you’re ready for the next jump, don’t believe you’re ready for the big leagues, and just don’t think that you belong," James told Brian O'Keefe of Esquire in Sept. 2024.
Expectations are high for the former Hawkeyes standout, as she's coming off a 2024 season in which she earned Rookie of the Year honors and helped lead the Fever to their first playoff appearance since 2016.
In 40 starts, Clark averaged 19.2 points and 5.7 rebounds to go along with a league-leading 8.4 assists per game. She shot 41.7 percent from the field and 34.4 percent from three, although she connected on 37 percent of her triples over the final 10 games of the regular season.
Many fans will be curious to see how Clark looks to build upon her impressive rookie year, and the NBA's all-time leading scorer is one of them.
