Liberty Unveil Rings, Banner Celebrating 2024 WNBA Championship in New Photos

Before officially tipping off the new season, the New York Liberty had one more celebration for their 2024 WNBA Finals win by raising the championship banner and unveiling their rings in front of their hometown fans.

The banner was raised to the rafters in Barclays Center prior to tipoff of Saturday's game against the Las Vegas Aces.

Sabrina Ionescu was among the players who showed off the lavishly-designed championship ring that everyone in the organization received.

Liberty governor Clara Wu Tsai also delivered a message to the crowd as part of the pregame festivities.

Per USA Today's Ehsan Kassim, Soull Ogun of L'Enchanteur designed the ring and included the torch logo that has been associated with the franchise since it debuted in 1997.

It also includes the motif of a leaf rising out of concrete as a tribute to "The Concrete Jungle."

Liberty CEO Keia Clarke said in Kassim's story the ring was created to "reflect on our story on and off the court" as they built a championship roster.

"This ring is a tribute to every fan, every player who believed in the New York Liberty and shared in our unforgettable 2024 title run," Clarke explained.

The Liberty had lost their first five appearances in the WNBA Finals, including a four-game series loss to the Aces in 2023. It looked like the story would repeat itself after Game 1 against the Minnesota Lynx in last year's Finals.

New York led by as many as 18 points and had an 83-72 advantage with 3:23 remaining in the fourth quarter. The Lynx closed the quarter on a 12-1 run to force overtime and stole a 95-93 victory.

The Liberty were able to rebound from that defeat to beat Minnesota in five games to win the franchise's first championship. It was the first basketball title for a New York pro team since the 1972-73 Knicks.
