3 Juventus Players Who Should Be Loaned out in 2015/16 Season

Adam DigbyJul 12, 2015

Juventus have worked quickly to ensure their summer preparations run as smoothly as possible, conducting their transfer business early in order to ensure Massimiliano Allegri can begin his training camp with almost a complete squad.

“We moved before other clubs for our main objectives,” director general Beppe Marotta told a press conference earlier this week (h/t Football Italia). The transfer market [for us] closes here today. The squad is competitive; there are two players for every position, so we think it’s competitive.”

With additions such as Mario Mandzukic and Sami Khedira joining the club, it is difficult to argue with that assessment, despite the exits of Andrea Pirlo and Carlos Tevez. Juventus will hope that new signing Paulo Dybala can have a major impact, and they will look to see what the incoming players can deliver in the coming weeks.

Their pre-season schedule—discussed in detail in this previous column—will present Allegri with a chance to do just that, but there are still perhaps a number of players who would be best served with a move away.

Over the following pages is a look at three of those names, members of the squad who need to be loaned out for the 2015/16 campaign both for the sake of their own careers and to create better harmony at Juventus.

Hordur Magnusson

1 of 3

Perhaps not the most famous name on the club’s books, the forthcoming season is a hugely important one for Hordur Magnusson. The Reykjavík native arrived in Turin in the summer of 2011, enjoying huge success in the youth sector where he won two major trophies before beginning his first-team career.

He spent the 2013/14 season with Serie B side Spezia, then gained a year of top-flight experience with Cesena last term. Playing at left-back, in central defence and even featuring in central midfield, Magnusson made 12 appearances, giving a good account of himself with the Seahorses.

According to statistics from WhoScored.com, he averaged 1.8 tackles, 2.2 interceptions and 6.3 clearances per game. Another similar move this year could help the 22-year-old deliver on his obvious potential.

Kingsley Coman

2 of 3

Kingsley Coman enjoyed a fantastic debut campaign with the Bianconeri, making 20 appearances and showing flashes of the bright future he so clearly has. However, the arrivals of Paulo Dybala, Mario Mandzukic and Simone Zaza mean there is likely to be much less playing time for the 19-year-old.

That means a temporary move away could be on the cards, with a report in French newspaper L’Equipe (h/t Forza Italian Football) linking Lille, Saint-Etienne and Palermo with a move for the former Paris Saint-Germain youngster.

With a year as a first-team regular in top-flight football under his belt, Coman could then return to Turin ready to play a much bigger role.

Paolo De Ceglie

3 of 3

While the first two men on this list are promising youngsters with interesting futures ahead of them, sadly the same cannot be said of Paolo De Ceglie. A product of the Bianconeri youth sector, he spent 2014 away on loan, first with Genoa before moving to Parma last summer where his situation only worsened.

Unable to pay his wages, the troubled club sent him back to Turin, but there was no real role for him under Massimiliano Allegri. De Ceglie made just two brief appearances for Juventus, and as he approaches his 29th birthday, it seems as though the Aosta native’s time with the club is set to end.

It may be difficult to find a buyer for him, but with two years still to run on his contract, there are likely to be opportunities to loan him elsewhere, just as Juventus have done with a number of other players this week.
