Brock Purdy Hyped as 49ers' Franchise QB by NFL Fans After $265M Contract Extension

Julia StumbaughMay 16, 2025

The San Francisco 49ers have committed to Brock Purdy as their franchise quarterback.

The 49ers and Purdy have agreed to terms on a five-year, $265 million extension that includes $181 million in total guarantees, multiple insiders including NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported Friday.

Some Niners fans were excited to see the franchise lock in Purdy through 2030.

Purdy, who originally entered the NFL as the final pick of the 2022 draft, took over as the 49ers' starter during the 2022 season. He led the franchise to a Super Bowl LVIII loss to Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs after the 2023 campaign.

The 25-year-old was previously heading into the 2025 season on the last year of his rookie deal, through which he earned a total of about $2.9 million over his first three NFL seasons, per Spotrac.

He now outranks stars like Mahomes and Jalen Hurts as one of the eight highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL heading into the 2025 season.

Purdy has recorded 9,518 passing yards and 64 passing touchdowns to 27 interceptions over 40 career appearances for the 49ers.

He has added 1,343 passing yards, three passing touchdowns and one interception in six career playoff games.

Despite missing out on the postseason last season, the 49ers clearly expect Purdy can lead his team back toward title contention in the near future.

ESPN's Nick Wagoner wrote Friday that Purdy and the 49ers "always hoped to have this done before on field portion of OTAs."

The Niners will now hope the certainty around Purdy, as well as other offseason changes like the promotion of offensive coordinator Klay Kubiak, the re-hiring of defensive coordinator Robert Saleh and the addition of special teams coordinator Brant Boyer, will help the 49ers bounce back from a disappointing 6-11 record in 2024.
