Real Madrid Transfer News: Sergio Ramos Set for Talks, Iker Casillas Rumours

Sergio Ramos is due to sit down with new Real Madrid boss Rafa Benitez, who will attempt to resolve the player's desire to leave the club.

Ruben Vegas of Marca confirmed Ramos' arrival at Los Blancos' training ground on Thursday ahead of the squad's pre-season medicals and return to work. While Vegas suggested goalkeeper Iker Casillas arrived to say his goodbyes prior to his move to Porto, Sport reports talks may have stalled and that the player trained under Benitez on Friday.

In Ramos's case, the defender will sit down to talks with Benitez, who will try and iron out any differences between player and club. Real Madrid are keen to give the new coach a chance to have a man-to-man chat with Ramos in an attempt to smooth things over with the player and put a lid on the matter once and for all.

The Spanish centre-back continues to be linked with a move to Manchester United, reported Matt Maltby of the MailOnline. United boss Louis van Gaal has seen a £28.3 million bid rejected for the player, according to Maltby, who suggested the World Cup winner "will cost upwards of £35 million."

Van Gaal and his squad embark on a pre-season tour of the United States on Monday, a trip which could speed up the English club's decision to sell goalkeeper David De Gea to Madrid. David McDonnell of the Mirror believes Van Gaal wants the saga ended by the time United take off so that he can focus on players who will feature in his first team next season.

Benitez won't want to lose the club's vice-captain and most dominant defender prior to his first year with the club, while United are likely to force Madrid into paying handsomely for De Gea, who has just one year left on his contract.

Both players appear to be standing off with their own clubs. Add United and Madrid's most likely tense negotiations on both accounts and the situation becomes testing to resolve. Both teams have plenty to lose and a whole lot of quality to gain.
