Georginio Wijnaldum Completes Transfer to Newcastle United

Netherlands international Georginio Wijnaldum has completed a move to Newcastle United from PSV Eindhoven, the English club announced on Saturday. 

The 24-year-old Wijnaldum scored 14 goals and provided three assists as PSV cruised to the Eredivisie title in 2014-15, per WhoScored.com.

There is little doubt things need to change at Newcastle if they are to become a force in English football once more.

Their abject Premier League form in the second half of last season almost resulted in relegation to the Championship—they eventually finished 15th—and their 2013-14 campaign was far from inspiring despite a decent 10th-place finish.

The signing of the talented and exciting Wijnaldum indicates a level of ambition from Newcastle that has been lacking in recent seasons, and Magpies fans will hope there is more to come during the McLaren era.
