Seahawks GM Talks Sam Darnold Expectations, Jalen Milroe's 'High Ceiling' in Video

The Seattle Seahawks signed quarterback Sam Darnold to a three-year, $100.5 million contract this offseason, and general manager John Schneider is expecting big things.

"Very high, very high," he told Rich Eisen on Thursday regarding his expectations for Darnold. "You can see the progress, getting with Kyle [Shanahan] and the group in San Francisco. And then where Kevin [O'Connell] and his group took it last year. He just keeps making really cool progress every year. To have an established system in place that he's played in and is comfortable in, is a big deal. Great human, great competitor, great leader so far. Excited to get him in the building as well as bringing Drew Lock back."

Schneider also spoke highly of third-round pick Jalen Milroe.

"Obviously high ceiling," he said. "Obviously all these guys that come in—last year's class was kind of a unicorn really—but all of these guys coming in, it takes a minute, it takes a lot of time for these guys to develop. Get those pro reps. ... It's exciting. When you're watching him, there's a lot of—look, I was blessed to be around Brett Favre at a young age, and there was a lot of 'wow' and there was a lot of 'whoa'—so [Milroe's] got some of those 'wows' and some of those 'whoas.' But then he takes off and is going for 50, 60, 70 yards, running 22 MPH with the ball in his hands. He's a special young man. He's been great so far."

For the Seahawks, Darnold gives them a solid option in the present, while Milroe is more of a developmental project. It was a major overhauling at the position this offseason after years of Geno Smith at the helm, but it appears to be a pretty solid plan, now and later, for the most important position on the field.
