Patriots' Christian Barmore Says Goal is to Be Ready Week 1 After Blood Clot Recovery

After dealing with blood clot issues during the 2024 season, New England Patriots defensive tackle Christian Barmore said he plans to be on the field for the start of the 2025 season.

Barmore said he will be a full participant in next week's voluntary organized activities and ultimately hopes to be ready for the start of the season in September, per ESPN's Mike Reiss.

"Yeah. That's the goal. I just have to keep following the medical team, but everything is looking really well," Barmore said.

Barmore, now gearing up for his fifth season, was diagnosed with blood clots last July and missed the first 10 games of the season. He managed to play four games across November and December before symptoms arose again, and he was sidelined for the remainder of the year.

He finished the 2024 campaign with six tackles and a sack.

Barmore was candid about his experience dealing with blood clots.

"It was one of the hardest times. I felt like I did everything in my power, wanting to come back," he said. "I don't want to ever be in that situation again, or anybody in the world to go through that. That stuff was no joke. It was a hard challenge."

Barmore also responded, "No" when asked whether he's concerned about the blood clots arising again.

Barmore, a second-round pick out of Alabama in 2021, has had a pair of seasons lost due to injuries as he missed seven games in 2022 before playing just four in 2024. When healthy, he's managed to serve as a dominant force on the Patriots' defensive line.

The best season of his career came in 2023 when he notched 64 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks and a forced fumble.

In 2025, Barmore will team up alongside former Philadelphia Eagles star Milton Williams, who signed with the team earlier this offseason. Together, the pair will look to give New England one of the best defensive lines in the league.
