Jake Paul Wants to 'Create 1 of the Greatest Sports Stories the World Has Ever Seen'

Ahead of his match against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. next month, Jake Paul has his eyes set on greater heights in the world of boxing.

During a pre-fight press conference on Wednesday, Paul said he "100 percent" feels that a win over Chavez could put him in line to face unified WBA and WBO cruiserweight champion Gilberto "Zurdo" Ramirez.

"This is what I came here to do, is become world champion and create one of the greatest sports stories the world has ever seen," Paul said. "Going from Disney Channel to YouTube to world champion in six to seven years, that's the most relatable and best sports story that any kid can get behind, and that's what I'm here to do, is inspire the next generation and do what no one's ever done before in the world's hardest sport, which is boxing."

Ramirez is defending his titles against Yuniel Dorticos in the co-main event of the June 28 card headlined by Paul vs. Chavez. The 33-year-old has a professional record of 47-1 with 30 knockouts, representing a major step-up in competition from Paul's usual opponents.

Paul improved to 11-1 in his boxing career with a win over legendary heavyweight Mike Tyson in November in the first combat sports event to be streamed live on Netflix. There was a 31-year age difference between Tyson and Paul, but the fight was still sanctioned as a professional match.

Chavez is only 11 years older than the 28-year-old Paul, and he most recently fought last July in a unanimous decision win over Uriah Hall to improve to 54-6-1, 1 NC with 34 career knockouts.

Despite Paul's lack of experience, the YouTuber has ushered in a new era of Influencer Boxing that has helped reignite fan interest in the sport. If he achieves his goal of becoming a world champion, the boxing world will have no choice but to give him the respect he deserves.
