WWE's Rey Mysterio to Receive Legend Impact Award at 2025 NHMC Gala

WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio will be honored next month at the National Hispanic Media Coalition's Impact Awards Gala.

Mysterio will receive the Legend Impact Award at the event, which is scheduled to take place at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, on June 6.

Per a press release from the NHMC, the legendary luchador is being recognized for his "groundbreaking impact in sports entertainment and representation spanning across generations."

Other individuals set to be honored alongside Mysterio include television producer Cris Abrego, actresses Daniella Pineda and Isabela Merced, and filmmaker Phil Lord.

Additionally, the popular streaming series Cobra Kai and Acapulco will receive awards.

Mysterio, 50, is one of the most popular and recognizable professional wrestlers of all time thanks to a career that has spanned 35 years.

He burst onto the scene as a 14-year-old in 1989 and went on to enjoy success in numerous wrestling promotions in the decades that followed, including WWE, WCW, ECW, AAA, CMLL, Lucha Underground and New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

Mysterio is perhaps best known for being a five-time cruiserweight champion in WCW, followed by a three-time world champion, three-time United States champion, two-time intercontinental champion and five-time tag team champion in WWE.

After primarily being pigeonholed in WCW as a cruiserweight wrestler, Mysterio signed with WWE in 2002, and he established himself as a main eventer and world champion.

Mysterio left WWE in 2015, but he returned in 2018, and he has continued to perform at a high level at an age when most wrestlers are long retired.

Despite being an active wrestler, Mysterio was immortalized with an induction into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2023, putting a bow on one of the most iconic careers in wrestling history.
