Chiefs vs. Cowboys Set for Thanksgiving NFL Schedule Ahead of Full 2025 Release

Adam WellsMay 14, 2025

The NFL is putting arguably its most marquee game of the 2025 season on Thanksgiving Day when the Dallas Cowboys will host the Kansas City Chiefs.

As part of the league's schedule rollout, it was announced on Wednesday that CBS will broadcast the Nov. 27 Chiefs-Cowboys matchup at 4:30 p.m. ET.

This will be the first time in four years the Chiefs and Cowboys have squared off. Kansas City won the most recent meeting 19-9 at Arrowhead Stadium in November 2021.

The two teams previously played on Thanksgiving Day during the 1995 season. Kansas City finished with the best record in the NFL that year (13-3), but the Cowboys handled business with a 24-12 victory en route to winning Super Bowl 30.

Heading into his ninth NFL season, Patrick Mahomes has never played at AT&T Stadium. The Chiefs played in Dallas during his rookie year in 2017, but Alex Smith was still the starting quarterback at that time.

The Thanksgiving Day matchup is the second confirmed standalone game of the 2025 season for both the Chiefs and Cowboys. Dallas will play the kickoff game against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field on Sept. 4.

Kansas City will host the Denver Broncos on Christmas Day. This will mark the Chiefs' third consecutive year playing on Dec. 25.

These are arguably the two most popular teams in the NFL right now. The Cowboys are always a ratings draw, regardless of how good or bad they are. The Chiefs have skyrocketed in popularity thanks to Mahomes, plus Travis Kelce being in a relationship with Taylor Swift.

Last year's Thanksgiving game between the Cowboys and New York Giants did the NFL's fourth-highest ratings ever on the holiday with an average of 38.5 million viewers when the two teams entered the day with a combined 6-16 record.

It's safe to assume the Chiefs will be better than the 2024 Giants to make for an even more intriguing game on paper, so those ratings numbers could be up significantly.
