Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Dmitry Orlov revealed what was going through his mind—and his bowels—after taking a penalty that led to a Washington Capitals goal during Game 4 of their second-round playoff series Tuesday night.

Orlov was called for interference when he hit Caps forward Tom Wilson with just over eight minutes remaining in regulation, giving Washington a five-on-three power play.

The veteran blueliner told reporters, "I almost s--t myself," when asked for his reaction to giving the Capitals a two-man advantage:

Just 17 seconds later, the NHL's all-time leading goal scorer, Alex Ovechkin, scored a power-play goal to to shrink the deficit to 3-2:

However, the Canes killed off the rest of Orlov's penalty, and Sean Walker scored an insurance goal with 3:15 left to restore the two-goal lead.

Andrei Svechnikov later put the game away with an empty-net goal, giving the Hurricanes a 5-2 win and a 3-1 lead in the series.

Orlov, 33, has been a steady and reliable defensive presence for the Canes for the past two seasons after signing a two-year, $15.5 million deal in 2023.

During the 2024-25 regular season, Orlov tied for second on the team with a plus-16 rating, plus he was tops among Canes defensemen with 101 hits and third among Carolina defensemen with 20 minutes played per game on average.

Originally a second-round draft pick by the Caps in 2009, Orlov played parts of his first 11 seasons in Washington before getting traded to the Boston Bruins during the 2022-23 campaign.

In 686 regular-season games with the Capitals, Orlov registered 60 goals and 196 assists for 256 points to go along with a plus-104 rating.

Orlov also appeared in 74 playoff games during his time with the Caps, winning a Stanley Cup in 2018.

Now, Orlov is one win away from knocking his former team out of the playoffs and advancing to the Eastern Conference Finals.

The Capitals will host the Hurricanes in Game 5 on Thursday night, and if Carolina wins, it will reach the Eastern Conference Finals for the second time in the past three seasons.
