Takeaways From SNME 44 ➡️
Kevin Owens vs. John Cena
The most anticipated match on the 2015 Battleground card is the rematch between United States champion Cena and Owens. After two Match of the Year contenders, the third chapter has the WWE Universe excited for the PPV.
The biggest X-factor at this month's PPV is Cesaro. He has been added to this storyline for a reason, and there is no doubt he could make his presence felt by interfering in the match and setting the tone moving forward.
While not getting a clean finish at Battleground would anger fans, adding Cesaro to the U.S. title chase and possibly booking a Triple Threat match at SummerSlam with Cesaro, Owens and Cena would make this a great storyline.
Owens can pin Cesaro clean at SummerSlam to win the title.
Brock Lesnar vs. Seth Rollins
Lesnar is one of the biggest draws in the history of combat sports, and his presence on the 2015 Battleground card takes the secondary PPV and adds legitimacy.
While the WWE may end up saving the WWE World Heavyweight Championship changing hands until SummerSlam, that doesn’t mean the in-ring battle between Lesnar and defending champion Rollins won’t be an incredible match.
The two men have squared off in the past, but this will be their first true one-on-one match, and the results should be unforgettable. Lesnar will throw Rollins around like a rag doll, but the current champion is too skilled to go down without a fight.
With The Authority having backup plans and Rollins doing the same, interference is likely in this match. As long as it’s executed well and Lesnar gets a rematch at SummerSlam, a convoluted finish at Battleground would be acceptable.
Bray Wyatt vs. Roman Reigns
While many members of the WWE Universe aren't sold on this feud yet because of the inconsistency of the storyline—it went from being about Roman Reigns' daughter to something entirely different—this is a battle of two future world champions.
Both Reigns and Bray Wyatt have the chance to be top stars in the WWE for a long time, and this is the first chapter in what could be a rivalry that lasts for years. Just like Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock fought on and off for years, the same will likely be true of Reigns and Wyatt.
Many members of the WWE Universe have complained about the in-ring work of Reigns and/or Wyatt, but both Superstars know what’s at stake here. As long as the two combatants work together to put on a great show, this will be a Match of the Night contender.
