Eagles' A.J. Brown Delivers Ole Miss Commencement Address In Video from Ceremony

Julia StumbaughMay 10, 2025

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown told Ole Miss graduates to dream "bigger than what feels comfortable" when giving a commencement speech to students at his former school on Saturday.

"Now here's the real game. You are your own operation, your discipline is your product, your name is your brand, your habits are your investments," Brown told more than 5,500 graduates. "Nobody's going to build it for you, and nobody's coming to rescue you when it gets hard."

Brown then shared a similar statement to one infamously quoted by Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts: "Success isn't owned, it's rented, and rent is due every single day."

Brown went on to encourage graduates to become metaphorical play-callers in their post-college lives: "You're stepping into a new season. You're holding the ball. Ole Miss gave you the playbook. Now it's your job to call the plays and lead the drive."

Brown played three seasons for Ole Miss between 2016 and 2018. He departed from Oxford as the program's all-time receiving leader with 2,984 yards in 36 games.

After being selected by the Titans in the second round of the 2019 draft, Brown was traded to the Eagles in February 2022. He went on to lead the Eagles with two postseason receiving touchdowns during the team's run to Super Bowl LIX.

When announcing his upcoming commencement address, Ole Miss praised his charitable work through the A.J. Brown Foundation and the viral attention he drew for reading a book on the playoff sidelines in addition to his work on the field.
