Giants' Daboll Reportedly More Excited About Jaxson Dart Than Any QB Since Josh Allen

Zach BacharMay 10, 2025

New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll already holds rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart in high regard, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

"I heard he threw the ball well yesterday," Fowler reported during a Saturday appearance on SportsCenter. "It's only one day of rookie minicamp, but Brian Daboll is really excited about this guy. More excited about him than really any other quarterback since Josh Allen that he's worked with. And so, really, it's a matter of when he plays. The Giants do feel like they have an infrastructure in place with a good defense with Russell Wilson to win games and help him just develop behind the scenes. But we know if they do lose in games, there's going to be pressure to play him."

The Giants made their interest in Dart clear during the 2025 NFL draft, trading back into the first round to select the Ole Miss passer with the No. 25 overall pick.

While Daboll confirmed that veteran signal-caller Russell Wilson will be New York's Week 1 starter in 2025 after signing a one-year deal worth $10.5 million with the team in free agency, Dart is the top candidate to be the team's long-term option under center.

Before he became head coach of the Giants in 2022, Daboll served as the Buffalo Bills' offensive coordinator from 2018-21.

His first year in Buffalo coincided with Josh Allen's rookie season, as he oversaw the former Wyoming passer blossom into one of the NFL's top quarterbacks. Allen is coming off an impressive 2024 campaign, earning MVP honors for the first time in his career.

Dart showed promise throughout his senior season with the Rebels, throwing for 4,279 yards and 29 touchdowns to go along with a 69.3 completion percentage. He was also picked off just six times in 13 games.

Even though Dart may not see the field right away as a rookie, Daboll reportedly has high expectations for the 21-year-old.
