Dillon Gabriel Says 'I Love' That Shedeur Sanders Was Selected by Browns in 2025 Draft

Cleveland Browns quarterback Dillon Gabriel is looking forward to competing in training camp with fellow rookie Shedeur Sanders.

Gabriel told reporters "I love" that Cleveland also selected Sanders in the 2025 NFL draft at a press conference on Saturday.

The Browns added the former Oregon signal-caller in the third round with the No. 94 overall choice. On Day 3, Cleveland also traded up to draft Sanders in the fifth round at No. 144.

While they'll both be competing, there's also mutual respect between the two passers.

"He always has a great mood, but overall I can tell he's a good person," Sanders told reporters about Gabriel.

The two quarterbacks participated in Cleveland's rookie minicamp on Friday. While it wasn't a major surprise due to their respective draft positions, Gabriel received the first snaps in team drills over Sanders.

Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski downplayed the significance of it, though.

"I wouldn't look into, really, anything," Stefanski said, per ESPN's Daniel Oyefusi. "I think you'll see the whole weekend, going through the spring, we don't pay too close attention to who's in there first."

Both rookies will also be competing with former first-round pick Kenny Pickett as well as 40-year-old veteran Joe Flacco for Cleveland's Week 1 starting job.

Gabriel wrapped up a stellar senior season with the Ducks in 2024, finishing No. 3 in Heisman Trophy voting. In 14 games, he completed 72.9 percent of his throws for 3,857 yards and 30 touchdowns compared to a mere six interceptions.

He was one of the more experienced quarterbacks in his draft class, as he'll be 25 years old before the end of the 2025 regular season.

It could give Gabriel an advantage in the Browns' starting competition, as the team will be looking to make immediate improvements upon a 3-14 finish in 2024.
