New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr has officially called it a career.

Carr confirmed his decision and said that he has been "blessed" during his time in the NFL.

“Upon reflection of prayer, and in discussion with Heather, I’ve decided to retire from the National Football League," Carr said, per Nick Underhill of New Orleans Football Network. "For more than 11 years, we have been incredibly blessed, and we are forever grateful and humbled by this experience. It’s difficult to find the right words to express our thanks to all the teammates, coaches, management, ownership, team officials and especially the fans who made this journey so special. Your unwavering support has meant the world to us.”

Following the announcement, fans took to social media to express shock at Carr's decision.

Carr ends his career after 11 seasons. He was a four-time Pro Bowler and threw for 41,245 yards and 257 touchdowns.

He spent his final two seasons with the Saints and remained productive. He threw for 2,145 yards with 15 touchdowns and five interceptions in 10 games prior to suffering his season-ending injury. New Orleans was 5-5 prior to Carr's injury and would struggle in his absence and finish the season 5-12.

New Orleans' quarterback room now consists of Spencer Rattler, Jake Haener and 2025 second-round pick Tyler Shough. It will now be up to new head coach Kellen Moore to determine if he wants to add quarterback depth or role with those three in the 2025 season.
