Mystics' Georgia Amoore Out For WNBA Rookie Season With ACL Injury

Joseph ZuckerMay 9, 2025

Washington Mystics head coach Sydney Johnson confirmed the team expects first-round draft pick Georgia Amoore to miss the entire 2025 WNBA season.

The team said last week Amoore suffered an ACL injury during practice and would be out indefinitely.

The 5'6" guard averaged 19.6 points and 6.9 assists this past season with Kentucky. A four-year starter at Virginia Tech, she followed head coach Kenny Brooks to the Wildcats for her college swan song.

Bleacher Report's Rachel Galligan had Amoore sixth on her 2025 big board.

"Amoore can pick apart and read a defense like no other," Galligan wrote. "She sees the game like a coach on the floor and has always made everyone around her better. She can create her own shot and create separation for herself.

"She'll thrive at the next level when she doesn't have entire scouting reports focused solely on her every game.

The first-team All-SEC honoree was seemingly poised to have a great opportunity to develop in Washington.

After finishing 14-26, the Mystics embraced a full rebuild by hiring a new head coach (Johnson) and general manager (Jamila Wideman) along with trading two-time All-Star Ariel Atkins to the Chicago Sky.

In addition to Amoore, the franchise added Notre Dame guard Sonia Citron and USC forward Kiki Iriafen from the first round of the draft.

With the youth movement that's underway in the nation's capital, third-year guard Jade Melbourne is likely to take a bigger role in the backcourt to account for Amoore's injury.
