Giants GM's Thoughts on Jaxson Dart Revealed in Video, 'Let's F--king Roll the Dice'

Jack MurrayMay 9, 2025

The New York Giants' aggressive approach to the 2025 NFL draft has been documented.

A released video from the team's draft room during the first round of April's draft showed general manager Joe Schoen speaking with head coach Brian Daboll about the prospect of trading up to draft quarterback Jaxson Dart. In the moment, Schoen weighs the option and decides that the team should "f--king roll the dice."

"Nobody's going to remember a third-round pick if you are right," Schoen said. "You guys are convicted in him, you believe in him, we did the process and he checked all the boxes. Let's f--king roll the dice."

The Giants traded their second-round pick (No. 34) and third-round pick (No. 99) in 2025 as well as their third-round pick in 2026. It was a steep price to pay to move up and select Dart, but Schoen's words show that the team believed he was worth the investment.

Dart was rated as the No. 57 overall player and the No. 3 quarterback in the draft class by Bleacher Report's NFL Scouting Department. He played four collegiate seasons, the final three of which came at Ole Miss. He threw for 4,279 yards with 29 touchdowns and six interceptions in 2024 while leading the Rebels to a 10-3 record.

He joins a New York team that went 3-14 in 2024 and also added quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston in the offseason. This likely means that Dart won't be the team's Week 1 starter and that it can work on developing him so that he can take over in 2026.

He joins No. 3 pick Abdul Carter as the top prospects entering the team in 2025. Schoen, Daboll and the franchise as a whole hope that this roll of the dice will pay off.
