The new hairstyle coincides with the release of Wilson's first signature shoe, the Nike A'Ones, earlier this week. Per Scooby Axson of USA Today, the sneakers sold out less than five minutes after hitting the market. Tania Ganguli of the New York Times reported that Wilson is now the first Black WNBA player to have a signature shoe since 2011.
"It’s time for people to have a shoe and see a shoe from someone like me, considering it hasn’t been done in a long, long time and it comes from a Black female athlete in this world," Wilson told Ganguli. "I’m grateful."
Wilson took home her third career WNBA MVP award last season after setting a new league record with 26.9 points per game while also averaging 11.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.8 steals and a league-high 2.6 blocks.
After finishing fourth in the WNBA with a 27-13 record, the Aces were eliminated from the playoffs in the semifinals by the eventual champion New York Liberty in four games. Las Vegas was hoping to win a third straight WNBA championship.
It can be expected that Wilson and company will be motivated to return to the mountaintop in 2025, and she will look stylish during the upcoming title chase.
