Hurricanes vs. Capitals Betting Odds, Player Props and Picks for May 8

The Carolina Hurricanes and Washington Capitals will likely have the lowest-scoring second-round series in the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs. 

Game 1 of the Eastern Conference series produced just two goals in regulation and a one-sided shot table in favor of Carolina. 

Washington needs a win in Game 2 to avoid a sweep of early home games. To do so, it’ll have to rely on a steady defense that has blocked a lot of shots through six games.

Andrei Svechnikov Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (-125) 

Andrei Svechnikov has the highest volume of shots on goal this postseason on Carolina’s roster. 

He has 25 shots on goal and fired three at the Washington net in Game 1. 

Svechnikov has the seventh-most SOGs in the postseason and the fifth-most SOGs among players still fighting for the Stanley Cup.

The Russian winger hit the over on this line in four of six playoff games as well.

Jakob Chychrun Over 1.5 Blocks (-168)

Washington’s defensive corps put a ton of work into blocking shots. 

Jakob Chychrun is one of three Caps D-men in the top 25 in postseason blocks. 

He’s second on the team in blocks behind Matt Roy, but he has a more favorable betting line.

Roy is listed at over/under 2.5, while Chychrun, who had three blocks in Game 1, is listed at over/under 1.5.

Chychrun’s blocked at least two shots in every postseason game this season, so that’s why he should be the Caps D-man to bet instead of Roy.

Under 5.5 (+100)

Carolina and Washington are both 4-2 to the under 5.5 this postseason. 

Game 1 only featured two regulation goals and Washington managed just 14 shots on goal. 

There was only one concession of more than three goals in the first round between the two sides, so if you’re looking for goals, wait for the nightcap between Edmonton and Vegas.
