Both wrestlers had their moments in this one.
In the end, Vaquer won, but she had eyes on Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide's Chik Tormenta and Dalys la Caribeña, who watched the match ringside and stared down the champ afterward.
Then it got even more confrontational backstage, with Vaquer face-to-face with Tormenta and la Caribeña. NXT general manager Ava tried to step in, but then Jacy Jayne came out of nowhere to slap the champion. That led to a quick fight between the two.
Upon arriving in NXT as an officially WWE-contracted wrestler in February, Grace immediately made it clear that the NXT Women's Championship was firmly in her crosshairs.
Grace confronted then-champion Giulia following a successful title defense at Vengeance Day, but her focus shifted toward Vaquer the following month when La Primera beat Giulia for the title.
At Stand & Deliver last month, Giulia was one of three Superstars to challenge Vaquer for the NXT women's title in a Fatal 4-Way match that also included Giulia and Jaida Parker.
Vaquer retained, but Grace was undeterred, and she continued to pursue another championship opportunity.
After teaming with Iyo Sky to beat Giulia and Roxanne Perez in a tag team match on the April 29 episode of NXT, Grace was booked in a No. 1 contender's match against Giulia by NXT general manager Ava the following week.
Grace prevailed in a physical, hard-hitting affair, establishing herself as the sole challenger for Vaquer and the NXT Women's Championship at Battleground.
Vaquer has been a dominant force since joining WWE in late 2024, holding both the NXT Women's Championship and the Women's North American Championship at one point, but Grace presented perhaps her biggest threat yet.
In addition to being physically imposing due to her impressive strength, Grace's track record is second to none among those in NXT, as she held the Knockouts World Championship three times while in TNA.
Vaquer's title reign was very much in jeopardy at Battleground, but she found a way to overcome Grace and maintain her placement atop the NXT women's division.
