Fan Files Lawsuit over Shedeur Sanders' Historic Slide in 2025 NFL Draft

Joseph ZuckerMay 6, 2025

One NFL fan is taking extreme measures in response to Shedeur Sanders' unexpected plunge in the 2025 draft.

MSNBC's Jordan Rubin reported a man, named John Doe in the complaint, has sued the NFL and alleged he suffered "emotional distress and trauma" as Sanders went in the fifth round to the Cleveland Browns. The plaintiff, who identified himself as a Colorado football fan, is seeking $100 million in damages.

The plaintiff also claimed the rumors circulating around the Buffaloes quarterback before the draft "contributed to a narrative that has unjustly harmed his reputation and potential as a player."

There's no getting around the fact that Sanders making it to Day 3 of the draft was a shock. Leading up to the event, plenty of people considered him either a first-round pick or second-round selection at worst.

The fact that such a lawsuit was filed underscores the hype around Sanders that could have caused some of his slide.

Sanders assembled a massive fanbase at Jackson State and Colorado. In terms of Q Score, he's probably one of the most famous players on the Browns and he has yet to log a single snap for them.

All of this attention is focused on a quarterback who could be third or even fourth on the depth chart when the regular season is here.

The spotlight probably won't dim anytime soon, with everyone curious to see how Cleveland's QB battle unfolds.
