Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Sure enough, the Browns used their third-round pick to draft Gabriel at the No. 94 spot on April 25.
While the prediction was impressive, the signal-caller revealed that he developed a relationship with Cleveland's coaching staff after multiple pre-draft meetings went well.
"I think naturally in this process, when you’re around them for quite some time, you’re able to talk through ball and, you know, get to know one another," Gabriel said, via Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal. "And I truly felt like those relationships were built and I’m so glad I’m a Brown."
The Browns also entered the draft with a need under center. With Deshaun Watson's availability in 2025 uncertain due to a torn Achilles, Cleveland's quarterbacks entering the draft were 2024 backup Kenny Pickett and 40-year-old Joe Flacco.
Gabriel is coming off an impressive senior season at Oregon, completing 72.9 percent of his throws for 3,857 yards and 30 touchdowns while getting picked off a mere six times.
He also rushed for seven scores.
The 24-year-old wasn't the only passer that the Browns selected in the draft, picking Colorado's Shedeur Sanders in the fifth round with the No. 144 choice.
As Gabriel prepares for his rookie season in Cleveland, he'll have the opportunity to compete for a Week 1 starting spot.
