Caitlin Clark Gets Standing Ovation on Video in Iowa Return for Fever Preseason Game

Scott PolacekMay 4, 2025

Welcome home, Caitlin Clark.

The Indiana Fever star enjoyed quite the reception during Sunday's homecoming to Iowa's Carver-Hawkeye Arena, where she turned in one of the best collegiate careers in basketball history.

Indiana played a preseason game against the Brazilian women's basketball national team on Sunday, and fans greeted Clark exactly as expected.

Scott Dochterman of The Athletic noted Clark's introduction registered 116 decibels.

That Clark received such an ovation comes as no surprise. She became the NCAA Division I all-time leading scorer during a career littered with accomplishments, including two Naismith Awards, two Associated Press Player of the Year awards, two Wooden Awards, three Big Ten Player of the Year Awards and four All-American selections.

She led the Hawkeyes to back-to-back national championship games in 2023 and 2024 before becoming the No. 1 overall pick of the 2024 WNBA draft.

Yet there was some concern about her homecoming, seeing how she missed Saturday's preseason game against Washington Mystics.

"As far as a status update, she's had a lot of progress in the last 24 hours, and that was our goal," head coach Stephanie White said, per ESPN's Michael Voepel. "We'll see what happens and how she feels after the workouts that she went through today. Hopefully, she'll be ready to go [Sunday]."

She was ready to go and took the floor against the same Brazilian national team that was the opponent for Angel Reese's homecoming to LSU on Friday.

Reese's Chicago Sky defeated Brazil at LSU in a game that was more notable for the warm welcome she and teammate Hailey Van Lith received than the final score of 89-62.

Clark and Reese will once again be under the spotlight during their second WNBA campaigns, and they face each other in the regular-season opener on May 17.
