Raise your glasses for Good Cheer.
The undefeated filly won the Kentucky Oaks on Friday evening with an unofficial time of 1:50:15, torching the field off the final turn and down the stretch run to finish off a dominant run.
That's now seven wins in seven tries for Good Cheer.
Drexel Hill finished second in the event, while Bless the Broken was third. Both came into the race on 30-1 odds.
Here is the payout information:
Win: Good Cheer ($4.78)
Place: Good Cheer ($3.62), Drexel Hill ($21.02)
Show: Good Cheer ($3.02), Drexel Hill ($11.76), Bless the Broken ($7.48)
Good Cheer was the prohibitive favorite coming into the event at 6-5 odds, with La Cara (6-1), Quietside (8-1), Ballerina d'Oro (10-1) and Simply Joking (10-1) also given solid odds to finish in the money.
"Of course..." Good Cheer's jockey Luis Saez said on the NBC broadcast after the race when asked if he had any anxious moments during the running. "But I feel like she deserved to win here, she's so special."
The Kentucky Oaks is a $1.5 million, Grade 1 stakes and the first leg of the Filly Triple Crown for female horses. The length of the yearly race at Churchill Downs is 1 1/8 miles. Rain and winds caused the event to be delayed slightly, creating a somewhat sloppy track for the horses.
None of it mattered to Good Cheer, however, as the filly continued her dominant run.
