Kentucky Derby 2025 Full Lineup of Horses, Favorites and Sleepers in 151st Race

The Kentucky Derby favorites have not been successful in recent years.

Each of the last three winners at Churchill Downs had odds of 15-1 or longer.

Journalism is trying to end the run of long-shot horses in 2025. He is by far the best horse in the field, and at his best, he should run away with the first leg of the Triple Crown.

However, there will be some sleepers in the mix for the victory, including a few with recent victories.

Favorites

Journalism

Journalism is the horse to beat in the 2025 Kentucky Derby field.

The current pre-race favorite won the last four races he was entered in. His last victory came at the Santa Anita Derby, one of the top Derby tune-up events.

Journalism is a horse that simply knows how to get to the front of fields and stay there.

He's the obvious choice to win Saturday's Derby and his odds might even dip from 3-1 if so many people wager on him.

Sovereignty

Sovereignty is one of the popular alternatives to picking Journalism.

Sovereignty finished in either first or second place in his last four races.

The horse with 5-1 odds captured the Street Sense Stakes at the end of 2024 and started 2025 with a win at the Fountain of Youth Stakes.

Sovereignty came in second in his last race, the Florida Derby, to Tappan Street, who had to scratch from the Derby field with an injury.

Sleepers

Citizen Bull

A Bob Baffert-trained horse at 20-1 stands out among the rest of the field.

Citizen Bull had a disappointing fourth-place finish at the Santa Anita Derby in April behind Journalism.

However, the horse coming out of post No. 1 did win the Breeders' Cup Juvenile in November. He owns four wins in his last six starts.

The most-recent result is concerning, but this is a horse more than capable of visiting the winners' circle.

Tiztastic

Tiztastic's overall results are scattered, but he is coming off a win at the Louisiana Debry.

You can't point to consistency at the top with the 20-1 horse, which is why he has such long odds going into the Derby.

Tiztastic finished second, fifth and third twice in the four starts prior to the Louisiana Derby win.

If anything, you can go off the recent win and say Tiztastic is rounding into form at the right time.
