Jameson Williams, Lions Reportedly Agree to $83M Contract Extension Before Week 1

Doric SamSep 6, 2025

After shutting down any trade speculation surrounding rising star receiver Jameson Williams, the Detroit Lions doubled down with their commitment to him.

Per NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Lions reached an agreement with Williams on a new three-year, $83 million contract on Saturday. The team had exercised the fifth-year option on his rookie contract earlier this offseason, which guaranteed him $15.5 million for the 2026 season.

Williams' contract includes $67 million guaranteed, according to Schultz.

After Williams' name was floated in trade rumors before the 2025 NFL draft, Lions general manager Brad Holmes made it clear that the team never intended to deal him away.

"That's something that we have never entertained," Holmes told reporters. "I don't know where that report came from. But that's not a conversation that me and [head coach] Dan [Campbell have] ever had."

The No. 12 pick in the 2022 draft, Williams has shown flashes of superstar potential. After a pair of nondescript years, he put things together in 2024 and recorded career highs across the board with 58 catches for 1,001 yards and seven touchdowns. He also added a rushing score and ranked sixth in the NFL with an average of 17.3 yards per reception.

Williams has proven to be a reliable complementary piece to Lions star wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown, who is a three-time Pro Bowler and one of the best receivers in the league. By retaining Williams for the next three years, Detroit will have one of the top receiving duos in the NFL as the team chases its first appearance in the Super Bowl.
