Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Coming into the 2025 NFL draft, the Titans had a big decision to make—select Ward, the consensus top quarterback in the draft, or take a player like two-way phenom Travis Hunter or edge-rusher Abdul Carter, who sat atop most big boards.
Ultimately, the Titans chose to address the most important position in the sport.
It made sense. In two seasons, Will Levis appeared to be in over his head, throwing for 3,899 yards, 21 touchdowns and 16 interceptions while completing just 61 percent of his passes and taking 69 sacks. He was 5-16 as the starter.
A change was needed, and Ward rocketed up draft boards after having a career year for Miami in the 2024 campaign, throwing for 4,313 yards, 39 touchdowns and seven interceptions. After a pair of solid seasons with Washington State, Ward transferred to the Hurricanes and showed his potential.
And he certainly impressed the Titans during the pre-draft process.
"He interacted with everyone in our building," Titans head coach Brian Callahan told reporters regarding Ward's visit with the team. "There wasn't a person in the building that didn't come away impressed. There's an aura to him. He draws people to him."
Ward, meanwhile, is confident Tennessee got the selection right.
"It's really proving myself right," Ward told reporters after the draft when asked about having to prove the Titans right for picking him. "They know they made the right choice in getting me. But at the end of the day, I am just trying to be with my teammates, have command of the huddle, and at the end of the day, try and win games. That is our main goal."
