Rodriguez Ties Reardon for 8th Place on All-Time Saves List

Bleacher Report MilestonesJul 9, 2015

Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Francisco Rodriguez recorded the 367th save of his career in Wednesday's 6-5 win over the Atlanta Braves, tying Jeff Reardon for eighth place on the all-time saves list, per MLB Stat of the Day.

Rodriguez entered with a one-run lead at the beginning of the ninth inning, giving up an infield single to Braves infielder Pedro Ciriaco to start the frame.

However, the rally was quickly exterminated, with Braves second baseman Jace Peterson going down on strikes, followed by Ciriaco getting thrown out in an attempt to steal second base.

Rodriguez closed things out by inducing a flyout from Braves outfielder Cameron Maybin, allowing the Brewers to avoid a three-game home sweep.

Still thriving at the age of 34, Rodriguez has converted each of his 19 save opportunities this season, all while posting a 1.41 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 37-9 ratio of strikeouts to walks over 32 innings.

He could potentially reach a couple more milestones by the end of the year, as he needs just 10 more saves to tie seventh-place Joe Nathan (377) and 23 more to match sixth-place Dennis Eckersley (300).

Of course, with the Brewers out of contention even after ripping off a recent eight-game winning streak, it's quite possible Rodriguez will be traded to a contending team to work as a setup man.
