Patrick Mahomes Appears to React to Shedeur Sanders' NFL Draft Slide in Viral Post

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes appears surprised to see Shedeur Sanders still on the board after Round 3 of the 2025 NFL draft.

The Chiefs used their first four picks on Ohio State offensive tackle Josh Simmons, Tennessee defensive tackle Omarr Norman-Lott, Louisville edge Ashton Gillotte and Cal cornerback Nohl Williams.

Five teams selected quarterbacks through the first three rounds, but Sanders had yet to hear his name called as of pick No. 102.

The Tennessee Titans drafted Miami's Cam Ward with the No. 1 pick, followed later in the first round by the New York Giants trading up to No. 25 to select Ole Miss' Jaxson Dart.

Day 2 saw Louisville's Tyler Shough go off the board at No. 40 to the New Orleans Saints, followed by Alabama's Jalen Milroe to the Seattle Seahawks at No. 92 and Oregon's Dillon Gabriel to the Cleveland Browns at No. 94.

Sanders, who was ranked as the No. 23 overall prospect and No. 2 quarterback available on 2025 B/R NFL Draft Big Board, had been discussed in some early mock drafts as a potential top-three pick and a competitor with Ward as the top quarterback in the draft.

Nine teams passed on the chance to draft Mahomes in 2017, although he was the first quarterback taken off the board that spring when the Chiefs selected him at No. 10.

NFL starting quarterbacks are often high draft picks. For instance, by the time the 2025 NFL playoffs reached the divisional round, seven of the eight remaining quarterbacks were former first- or second-round picks.

Sanders will now look to beat the odds by going from his potential status as a fourth-round pick or later and becoming an eventual starting quarterback at the NFL level.
