Bryce Young, Tetairoa McMillan Reportedly Trained Together Before Panthers' Draft Pick

Paul KasabianApr 24, 2025

The Carolina Panthers selected Arizona wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan with the No. 8 overall pick in the NFL draft on Thursday, giving quarterback Bryce Young a new target.

However, those two have gotten to know each other before the selection, with the pair already working out in Los Angeles, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

McMillan finished eighth overall on the final B/R NFL Scouting Department big board.

McMillan was a highly productive wide receiver at Arizona. He caught 90 passes for 1,402 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2023 before adding an 84/1,319/8 stat line in 2024. He was the No. 2 ranked wideout on the B/R NFL Scouting department big board behind Colorado wide receiver/defensive back Travis Hunter.

"NFL offensive coordinators will appreciate his versatility and the litany of ways he can win in their offensive structure," B/R NFL Scout Dame Parson wrote. "He projects as a No. 1 wide receiver who you pepper with a high amount of targets per game."

The Panthers need that from the 6'4", 219-pound McMillan, who presents a big target for Young to pair with alongside the 6'3", 227-pound Xavier Legette (No. 32 overall pick in the 2024 draft).

Carolina needed a true WR1 on the team. No Panther pass-catcher had more than 49 receptions, 615 yards or five scores last year.

He also seems like a good fit on paper, particularly with the deep ball. Josh Norris of Underdog provided more information.

So McMillan can come in and easily be Young's top target. It appears they've gotten to know each other already, so that gets their offseason off to a great start.
