NFL Exec Reportedly Expects Team to Trade Back into Round 1, Draft Jalen Milroe

Doric SamApr 23, 2025

Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe is reportedly drawing increased interest as the 2025 NFL draft approaches.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported on Wednesday that Milroe "is still positioned to be an early Day 2 pick, though I've talked to a few executives in recent days who wonder if a team will trade into late-Round 1 for him."

"I think someone will do it," an NFC executive told Fowler.

Milroe is ranked as the No. 5 quarterback in the B/R NFL Scouting Department's draft big board. B/R NFL scout Dame Parson gave him a third-round grade, though the scouting department predicted in its mock draft that he would be a second-round pick by the New York Giants at No. 34.

Fowler noted that the Las Vegas Raiders "are on the radar" for Milroe and "would make sense," as they would afford him the chance to develop behind veteran quarterback Geno Smith before taking over as the starter.

Milroe is known for his dual-threat ability, but he's been working on his passing skills throughout the offseason, making him an even more attractive prospect before the draft begins on Thursday.

"The upside on Milroe is sizable," Fowler stated. "I spoke to long-established QB coach Jordan Palmer, who says Milroe checks the two most important boxes for a signal-caller: He's a competitive learner and a high achiever. Palmer and Milroe have worked over the past year on fluidity and connection to the ground as a passer, which should help his accuracy at the next level."
