Tyler Shough Has 'Super High' Floor, NFL Exec Says Ahead of 2025 Draft

Paul KasabianApr 22, 2025

An executive for an NFL team believes that quarterback Tyler Shough's floor is "super high" as the draft looms Thursday.

The exec made his remarks to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, who had "dozens of conversations with NFL executives, scouts and coaches" on this year's quarterback draft class of 2025.

"He's a grown man compared to kids in an evaluation standard. It works in his favor," the executive told Pelissero. "He's been in a lot of places, he's handled adversity, he's learned different systems and he's had to be around the most diverse group of people, going between all three schools. His floor is super high. It's just, you have to figure out if the floor and the ceiling are touching. And then, can you couple that with the durability?"

Shough was ranked as the fifth overall quarterback on Pelissero's list and given a draft projection of Round 1 or 2.

The 25-year-old enters the draft with plenty of experience, having played 42 games over seven seasons with Oregon, Texas Tech and Louisville.

He played last year for Louisville, completing 62.7 percent of his passes for 3,195 yards, 23 touchdowns and six interceptions.

One could argue that no quarterback's draft stock has risen higher than Shough's this season. At the very least, he's getting some very positive reviews for his work.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Monday that "there are teams that actually have Shough rated as their top quarterback in this draft," which is a bold statement considering how well-regarded Miami's Cam Ward, the presumptive No. 1 pick to the Tennessee Titans, largely is around the industry.

The latest consensus big board from NFL Mock Draft database has Shough at No. 70 overall and No. 5 among quarterbacks.

He's not particularly high on Bleacher Report's big board at No. 116 overall and No. 7 among quarterbacks. The latest B/R mock draft does have him as a Day 2 pick, though, at No. 82 overall to the Seattle Seahawks.

Ultimately, Shough is one of the more intriguing prospects to watch this week as far as his landing spot is concerned. It wouldn't be a big shock at this point to see him go in the back end of the first round, but then the question is where he falls in Day 2, with the third round almost seeming like his floor at this juncture.
