Jaguars' Hypothetical Alvin Kamara Trade Offer
Ferguson is an alignment-fluid piece in the passing game. He can play in-line, H-back and flexed out. He's a long strider with buildup speed to attack defenses vertically.
Ferguson is a functional route-runner and separator when given the chance. He is accustomed to easy touches off play action or run-pass options in the shallow areas of the field. He has the height, wingspan and athleticism to be a viable red-zone threat.
Ferguson is effective against zone coverages. He finds the open voids quickly and settles into them. The 22-year-old possesses strong, natural hands to pluck the ball away from his frame. He creates yards after the catch by breaking tackles and refusing to go down.
Ferguson is a functional move/space blocker. He is an effective lead blocker on split-flow actions and picking off inside 'backers.
When operating as an in-line blocker, Ferguson doesn’t display the play strength at the point of attack to handle traditional defensive ends. His technique needs work as he bends more at his knees than his waist, leading to overextending and surrendering leverage quickly during the exchange.
Ferguson isn’t a quick-footed or evasive mover to create yards after the catch with finesse. For his frame, he didn’t excel as a contested-catch target in 2024. If he can improve that area of his game, his value will increase significantly.
Overall, Ferguson projects as a backup/rotational tight end in the NFL behind an established starter. He has developmental upside as a blocker and contested-catch target. He'd fit best in quick-passing/West Coast offenses that will attack the seams off play action.
