Eagles Reportedly Could Be Open to Future NFL Draft Picks in Dallas Goedert Trade Talk

Timothy RappApr 17, 2025

The Philadelphia Eagles have had a relatively quiet offseason following their Super Bowl victory, at least compared to the massive moves they made a year ago.

A splash could be coming at the NFL draft, however.

According to Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports, "Dallas Goedert remains a name to watch on the trade market as the draft approaches. Interested teams believe Philadelphia would be open to future picks if they don’t receive 2025 draft capital."

The buzz surrounding the possibility of a Goedert trade has been circulating for some time now:

There would certainly be pros and cons to moving on from Goedert.

The pros are that he's a 30-year-old tight end with a history of injuries entering the final year of the deal, one that comes with a $11.7 cap hit in 2025. He's missed 15 games in the past three seasons, a concern as he enters the later years of his career.

The con is that Goedert remains productive when healthy. He was an extremely important playmaker for the Eagles in their postseason run, catching 17 passes for 215 yards and a touchdown in four playoff games. He's also a very good blocker alongside being a solid weapon in the passing game.

But the Eagles have had to make some tough financial decisions this offseason to maintain a healthy salary cap going forward, letting players like defensive tackle Milton Williams, defensive end Josh Sweat and guard Mekhi Becton, among others, walk in free agency. They also released veteran cornerback Darius Slay Jr.

The Eagles had to do so, in part, because the team has made major financial commitments to running back Saquon Barkley and off-ball linebacker Zach Baun, two positions that executive vice president and general manager Howie Roseman does not generally allocate major resources on. Barkley and Baun are such unique playmakers, however, that doing so in this case made a lot of sense.

But it also meant that some tough decisions had to be made around the roster, especially with future extensions for center Cam Jurgens and defensive tackle Jalen Carter to consider. Goedert may ultimately be another one of those tough goodbyes ahead of next week's draft.

"The way we look at the draft is it's a separate entity to anything else that's going on," Roseman told reporters on Tuesday when asked if Goedert's uncertain status would impact their draft plans. "We've got to make good decisions in the draft based on who the players are that are available in the draft. We can't make up any positions and make them better than they're not. We have to really have a true process. So, it really doesn't affect us."
