Drew Lock, Seahawks Reportedly Agree to Contract in NFL FA As Sam Darnold's Backup

The Seattle Seahawks have secured another backup option for new starter Sam Darnold.

Drew Lock has agreed to contract terms to join the Seahawks next season, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported Friday.

Lock previously made four appearances and two starts for the Seahawks while backing up Geno Smith during the 2023 season.

He spent the 2024 campaign with the New York Giants, where he made eight appearances and five starts amid the franchise's split from Daniel Jones.

Lock could be competing with Sam Howell for the QB2 spot behind Darnold this summer.

Howell, who made just one appearance in relief for the Seahawks last season, is signed through 2025, per Spotrac. Darnold meanwhile cashed in on his breakout 2024 campaign with the Minnesota Vikings with a three-year deal that could keep him in Seattle through 2027.

Jaren Hall is also under contract with the Seahawks. Adding a fourth quarterback could signal the Seahawks aren't going to prioritize adding a rookie signal caller through the upcoming draft, although general manager John Schneider has spoken positively about the depth of the incoming class and his franchise holds five picks in the top 100.

The franchise has also reportedly held Top 30 visits with both Louisville's Tyler Shough and Alabama's Jalen Milroe (h/t ESPN's Adam Schefter and Fox Sports' Jordan Schultz.)

Lock went 1-4 in his five starts for the struggling Giants last season. He finished his eight appearances having completed 59.1 percent of his passes for 1,071 yards while recording six touchdowns and five picks.

His strongest outing of the season came in Week 17 against the Indianapolis Colts, when he went 17-for-23 with 309 passing yards and four touchdowns to lead the Giants to their highest-scoring game of the season.

Lock was originally dealt to the Seahawks as part of the Russell Wilson trade in 2022, then re-signed to a one-year, $4 million deal the following year. He played last season with the Giants on a one-year, $5 million deal.
