T.J. Watt’s Cryptic IG Photo Has NFL Fans Predicting Its Meaning

T.J. Watt's latest Instagram post has fans speculating on his future with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The star linebacker posted a photo of himself from a game giving the peace sign on his Instagram story on Wednesday. The photo featured no caption, so it's hard to decipher the meaning behind it.

With a star as big as Watt, a cryptic post is always going to generate some chatter, and fans debated the meaning of the picture on social media afterward.

Watt could be trying to hint that his time in Pittsburgh is coming to an end soon, or perhaps he just wanted to stir the pot amid a long offseason. Or he may just likes the photo.

It's worth noting that Watt is entering the final year of his four-year, $112 million contract and will be a free agent after the 2025 season if he and the Steelers don't reach an agreement on an extension before then.

Some of Watt's fellow edge-rushers have earned massive extensions this offseason. Las Vegas Raiders star Maxx Crosby inked a three-year, $106.5 million deal, while Myles Garrett reached an extension with the Cleveland Browns that includes $123.5 million in guaranteed money.

Watt will likely use the reset market to his advantage when it's time to negotiate a deal with Pittsburgh.

Watt, 30, recorded 61 tackles and 11.5 sacks in 2024, also leading the league with six forced fumbles. He's just a few seasons removed from his Defensive Player of the Year campaign in 2021 when he tied the NFL single-season sack record with 22.5. He had another DPOY-worthy campaign in 2023 when he picked up 19 sacks.

It's impossible to decipher whether Watt's cryptic post had any meaning, but the Steelers would take a massive hit on the defensive end if he decides it's time for a change of scenery.
