Vikings Reportedly 'As Out As They Could Be' on Aaron Rodgers amid Steelers Rumors

Doric SamApr 7, 2025

It's becoming more and more apparent that the Pittsburgh Steelers are the only viable landing spot for veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers if he hopes to play during the 2025 season.

While discussing Rodgers during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show on Monday, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that he "would say the [Minnesota] Vikings are as out as they could be right now." He added that he would be "very surprised if it wasn't the Steelers if he plays, but I have not 100 percent been able to nail down if he's absolutely, definitely playing."

The Vikings had discussions with Rodgers earlier this offseason, but general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah made it clear last month that the team is hoping to move forward with 2024 No. 10 pick J.J. McCarthy, who missed his entire rookie season with a torn meniscus.

Still, Rapoport indicated that Rodgers is waiting out the possibility that an opportunity opens up in Minnesota before the 2025 season.

"If Aaron is not signed by like August, and something terrible happens to either the Vikings or someone else, then he would be the top guy available by a lot," Rapoport said.

The Steelers have put all their eggs in the Rodgers basket, as they've lost out on every other top quarterback available this offseason while waiting for his decision. Pittsburgh holds the No. 21 pick in the 2025 NFL draft and could be eyeing a quarterback, but the team is reportedly confident that the four-time NFL MVP will be wearing black and gold this year.

During an appearance on SportsCenter on Sunday, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported, "I'm told from the Steelers they do remain optimistic, but nothing has changed from when Art Rooney, team president, addressed the media at the owners meetings on Tuesday that they feel good about this shaking out that Rodgers will be a Pittsburgh Steeler."

With the Vikings off the board, Rodgers would be wise to make his decision sooner rather than later to give the Steelers more clarity as they prepare for the upcoming campaign.
