Kristian Campbell, Red Sox Agree to Reported $60M Contract Extension Through 2032

Doric SamApr 2, 2025

It only took five major-league games for Boston Red Sox prospect Kristian Campbell to be rewarded with a long-term commitment from the team.

Per Ian Browne of MLB.com, the Red Sox announced on Wednesday that they signed Campbell to an eight-year contract extension through the 2032 season with club options for 2033 and 2034. ESPN's Jeff Passan reported that the deal is worth $60 million.

Boston ranks last in the AL East at 1-4, but Campbell has already made a strong impression. The 22-year-old has hit .375 with a home run and two RBI, making him the only player on the team besides outfielder Wilyer Abreu with a home run this season.

Mike Petriello of MLB.com reported that Campbell's first career homer on Saturday was hit "at 112.2 mph, which is a top 3% exit velocity so far this season, and one of the 20 hardest-hit balls we’ve seen across the sport yet." His powerful swing drew praise before he even made it to the majors.

"He probably hits the ball harder than anyone in Minor League Baseball,” Red Sox director of player development Brian Abraham said last June before Campbell was promoted to Triple-A Worcester, "and hits the ball harder than a lot of our big leaguers."

The Red Sox selected Campbell in the fourth round of the 2023 MLB draft, and he hit .309 in his first minor-league season. He took a leap in 2024 when he hit a combined .330 on his way to being named Minor League Hitting Prospect of the Year.

Signing Campbell to an extension is a proactive move by the Red Sox that will undoubtedly have fans excited for the possibility of a bright future following the team's disappointing run in recent years.
