Adam Schefter Says Shedeur Sanders Going Top 3 in NFL Draft 'Increasingly Unlikely'

Paul KasabianApr 1, 2025

It's "increasingly unlikely" that Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders lands in the top three of the NFL draft, per ESPN's Adam Schefter, who reported the following on NFL Countdown.

"Just under a month away from the NFL draft, it sounds increasingly unlikely that Shedeur Sanders would wind up going 2 or 3. And that is where it would get interesting, the story of the draft then would become where is Shedeur Sanders going to go. I still think the Cleveland Browns are still talking about whether or not they would take Shedeur Sanders and the New York Giants are still talking about whether or not they would take Shedeur Sanders.

"And it's always possible that one of these organizations can have a change in philosophy and a shift in their thinking and come around to Shedeur. But the way that I'm reading it right now is that he doesn't figure to be either team's pick right now, through the tea leaves."

The Tennessee Titans could very well select Miami quarterback Cam Ward with the No. 1 overall pick, as they've seemingly moved on from 2023 second-round pick Will Levis after benching him. The Cleveland Browns and New York Giants, at second and third, need long-term solutions at quarterback.

However, a pair of blue-chip prospects would also be available in Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter and Penn State edge-rusher Abdul Carter, who rank first and second overall on the latest B/R NFL Scouting Department big board.

The latest B/R NFL Scouting Department mock draft has Ward first to the Titans, Carter second to the Browns and Hunter third to the Giants. Sanders landed ninth to the New Orleans Saints.

In theory, the Browns could take Hunter or Carter, the Giants could take the player remaining, and both could look for a quarterback later in the draft or punt on finding a long-term option until 2026. Or, in theory, Cleveland or New York could trade back up into the first round in hopes of getting Sanders.

Sanders' final placement in this draft is one of the most interesting subplots as it nears. The festivities will start on Thursday, April 25 in Green Bay.
